The holidays are an exciting time but can also be quite stressful! I created this STRESS-FREE Holiday Guide to help keep some of these important topics top of mind for you. The body does not know how to distinguish a smaller stress (planning for holiday gifts, meals, seating and sleeping arrangements, travel plans, uncomfortable topics bound to come up at dinner...) and when you're in a real FIGHT OR FLIGHT situation and your life is on the line (accident, chronic illness, loss of a loved one). The constant stress mode is what brings about eventual symptoms, feeling un-well and dis-ease. My Keys to STRESS-FREE Holidays: 1. Picture & Plan - What would make your holidays stress free? Share with family and plan for it! 2. Joy Filled Activities - Plan what activities you want to and anticipate doing with your loved ones. 3. Set Boundaries - It's ok to decline invitations, topics of conversation or to walk away or go for a walk to clear your head. As this week is bound to bring lots of JOYFUL moments, some of the moments can bring about stress.
To help alleviate some of that and have more meaningful and joy filled memories with our loved ones remember to: 1. Breathe Practice some deep breathing. This brings your body back to Parasympathetic Activation (Rest & Repair Mode) Remember you can do diaphragmatic box breathing where you inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds and hold for 4 seconds. Or the 4-7-8 (inhale 4 seconds, hold 7 seconds, exhale 8 seconds). 2. Prioritize Sleep Sleep is the most parasympathetic activity you can engage in. :) Quantity and Quality Matter. 8 hours is ideal and within the hours of 10 pm and 6 am to allow your body to do physical repair (10pm-2am) and psychological repair (2am-6am). Don't cheat your body, it needs both! The physical repair helps your body feel refreshed and strong, the psychological helps with your memory and mood. Happy Fall!
Seasons change and guess what, so do some of our skincare routines! Is this just me?! Seasonal changes always mean tweaking to my skincare routine. Since fall (aka winter here in Chicago) is upon us I figured this might be a good time to introduce you to my two favorite natural products brands. Today I'll share three of my favorite products to consider adding to your fall/winter skin care routine - and they're safe for all skin types!
